Kim Brooks Lifelong Learning Award

This award is in memory of an outstanding supporter of lifelong learning and a

friend of ABEA.


Kim Brooks worked in the Human Resources department of ArcelorMittal Dofasco, where

she was the driving force behind their award winning Essential Skills Program.


Kim was a long time supporter of the Hamilton Literacy Council and the Adult Basic

Education Association and believed that everyone had the right to learn.


We lost this special and valuable woman to cancer in 2006, but she will never be forgotten.

 

Nomination Process

This award is open to anyone 18 years and older, living in the city of Hamilton, or to any

agency/business working within Hamilton, who has a long and outstanding commitment

to lifelong learning and has

• been involved in lifelong learning as a participant, or
• been a driving force of lifelong learning programs in the workplace, or
• been the driving force of lifelong learning programs for the public.

Lifelong Learning may include, but is not exclusive to, participating in

• personal interest courses or training
• formal education
• upgrading essential skills in the workplace
• learning opportunities such as historical tours, dance, health programs, arts   and crafts, gardening, music etc


Evaluation of the Nomination

A valid nomination form will include

• the signature of the nominator
• the address an d phone number of the nominator
• the address and phone number of the nominee
• acknowledgment that the nominee is aware of the nomination
• answers to the questions as outlined on the nomination form
• information that is clear and easy to read

The nominations will be read by a committee consisting of members from ArcelorMittal

Dofasco Inc and the Adult Basic Education Association.


All nominations will be scored and the winner will be contacted by the Executive Director

of the Adult Basic Education Association.


What is the deadline for Nominations?


Nominations must be received by June 30th each year in order to be eligible for

consideration.


When will the award be presented?


In 2007 the award will be presented posthumously to Kim Brooks at the Lifelong Learning

Week Kick off event.


As of 2008 nominations will be opened to the public and the award will be presented each

September at the Lifelong Learning Week kick off event.
